Banswara is in the south part of Rajasthan. It got its name from the 'baans' or bamboo trees that used to grow in great numbers there. The city is known for its hundreds of tiny islands located on the Mahi River. It is a major agricultural market. Cotton ginning, hand weaving and wood working are among its main industries.

Mahi Dam
Also known as Mahi Bajaj Sagar Dam is a huge dam with 16 gates built across the Mahi River in Rajasthan's Banswara district. It is interesting to note that this is Rajasthan's longest and second largest dam. During monsoons, the sight of flowing water to great heights is truly soul soothing.
It is located 18 kilometers from city center in Ramgarh village and is easily accessible by road.
Madareshwar Shiva Temple
An ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located inside a natural cave on a hilltop.
It is a significant occasion which must be experienced, when the Rudra Abhishek Pooja is performed in the temple on Maha Shivratri.
