Khimsar is a remote village in the Nagaur district of Rajasthan with an Oasis and is the undiscovered gem of the Thar desert. It gives a unique perspective of an oasis that appears to be a mirage. The most notable feature of this desert region is its massive dunes. The landscape of this area is defined by these natural features.

The village is located in the middle of an endless expanse where you can spend your day exploring the various shades of sand. Huts built in the middle of the village's rustic surroundings complement the peaceful atmosphere. Here, one can achieve a certain degree of tranquility and peace.


The camel safari could be a memorable experience in this area. The only ways to get to the village are by horse, camel or jeep.

Khimsar Fort

The Khimsar Fort was built in the 16th century on the outskirts of the vast Thar desert. It is spread across 11 acres of open courtyards, lawns and orchards. The fort's magnificent architecture makes it one of the most beautiful forts in the entire state of Rajasthan. It is a must-see attraction that speaks of glorious history of the state.

The fort has been converted into a hotel, with the royal family's descendants residing in a part of it. It is now one of Rajasthan's top luxury heritage hotels after being transformed into one.


Nagaur Fort

An old historical fort is located in the Nagaur district of Rajasthan and is renowned for its eye-catching architecture, large campus and high walls.

Currently, this fort has been transformed into a heritage monument. There are numerous tourist attractions at the fort including stunning fountains, temples, gardens with a calm atmosphere.

A part of the fort has been transformed into a heritage hotel that provides its guests with luxurious stay and services.

Ways to Reach:

  • By Air- The nearest airport is in Jodhpur, which is 92 kms away. From there you can book a taxi.

  • By Train- The closest railway station is in Jodhpur as well. Buses and other private vehicles can be taken from the station to reach Khimsar.

  • By Road- Since Khimsar is located on the Jodhpur-Nagaur-Bikaner Road, it is easily accessible by bus from the neighboring cities. There are state-owned buses.
